Town Centre celebrates £1.25 million investment
Weston Business Improvement District (BID) are celebrating after winning a vote to renew a scheme that will generate an investment of £1.25 million in the next five years. Local businesses voted to renew Weston BID which means the dedicated team will continue to build upon the important work it has been doing for the town over the last 5 years.
The renewal has been approved after members of the Weston business community cast their votes over the last four weeks. A new five-year business plan which reflected the views and priorities of local businesses in Weston-super-Mare, was hand delivered by members of the BID team and street wardens to all eligible BID area businesses during October 2016. Those businesses then had their final say on whether the business-led and business-funded initiative went ahead.
The BID team are thrilled the business community has chosen to ‘Back the BID’. Paul Batts, Chairman of Weston BID said: “This is a positive result, not only for the team but for the whole town. We can now continue the work we have undertaken as well as implement our new five year business plan. The business-backed and business-led BID team are delighted to have the support of the town following the work we’ve delivered since 2012. The town is already improving and we look forward to building on the momentum of what we have started, and to contributing to the significant growth of the town’s economy. The next few years are really important for the development of Weston, and we can now play our part in making Weston a great place to work and live.”
Since April 2012, Weston BID has invested over £1 million directly into the town centre and introduced a variety of initiatives and projects to enhance Weston’s profile and reputation to boost footfall and strengthen the local economy. Weston BID 2 will commence on the 3rd April 2017 until the end of March 2022.
